Between Books

After starting this project, I am finding myself drawn to writing new posts everyday. And obviously, I just cant write new book reviews everyday right? So thought will share some other reviews also with you here...experiences that I have between books.
 
Restaurants, hotels, new products, stores...these are some of the things that I am planning to record here. Hope you will like it.

I rarely engage in social media. My feed is mostly full of quotes and pictures of the Masters, yoga videos and cat/dog other animal videos. The posts that I put up will either be related to yoga / vedanta / special needs. To preserve my own sanity, I have unfollowed people who post either extreme left or extreme right posts, posts that glorify / demean religion or caste etc.  One cannot deny that social media has tremendous power in shaping people's opinion, give a glimpse of lived experiences of those whom we otherwise may not come across in real life, provide a platform for everyone to voice their side of the story, raise awareness of issues that are not spotlighted by main stream media etc. It is a wonderful tool, a great boon to connect people across the world, it can broaden our horizons...basically it has unlimited power. Anything but words

They are the most gross and inadequate. I wish that I was a painter, who can color her thoughts and paint her feelings. The canvas nothing but an extension of my soul. A mirror that reflects that which is within me, now bright, now dark. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes full of shadows. Vibrant and sedate, pious and petty -an amalgamation of lines, colors and textures that talks directly through the mirror of another pair of eyes and reflects in their own soul. Genre: Autobiography Unputdownable Quotient: High Over all rating: 4/5 I have read only one biography till date -Martin Luther King Junior's. That too in a Reader's Digest special edition collection...waaayyy back in 2007 or 2008. And this book is the first autobiography that I have ever read and  to cut a long story short, I loved it! While there are many inspiring and great autobiographies written by great men and women, (of which I have read none and hence cant draw a comparison) am sure this will sneak into your heart. By no standards is this book a literary gem. The prose is very simple and straightforward and I feel this makes the book very powerful. I had no idea that such a book was on shelves. My librarian thrust it upon me on my last visit and I took this book so as to not to offend him. Peace

Peace, peace and peace. It prevails all over. Within and without. Serene and quite, the mind is like a still lake. A few thoughts ripple out now and then, like how a gentle breeze makes the water move beautifully and silently. With this quietude, it is very easy to see the completeness in oneself. The utter sense of fulfilment and perfection. The clarity that nothing is needed, nothing is to be accomplished, nothing to  possess, nothing to prove, nothing to achieve and nothing at all to be done is suddenly so obvious. As the body stills, the breath calms down. With the breath in peace, the thought flow reduces to a trickle. As the thought flow reduces to a trickle, the mind -which is nothing but a bundle of thoughts -almost ceases to exist. Beginning of the March

It really pains to see that I have written only 7 posts in February. And it pains even more when I realize that I have logged in only 5 activities in the runtastic app for the month. But then, considering a very hectic work week, 2 weddings, death of a relative, a sick relative and a terrible eye infection, I should not delve too much on the month that was past. So I wanted to share here what I want to do in March 2015, as a sort of commitment to myself. 1. I am excited that I am going to run 10 kilometers for 10 continuous days starting from March 3rd. This 10X10 is something that I have been wanting to do for quite sometime. I have a mental block of this 10 K mark and by doing this 10X10, I want to feel as if 10K is the new 5K for me. Whenever I finish 10K, I feel as if I have done something great, and this feeling is so not helping me to start training for my half marathon that I want to run in June. Ocean and the waves

As we are slowly getting back to our routine, I am looking back at the beginning of the lockdown and how it all unfolded for me. As the whole world withdrew inside their homes, the environment became so conducive to go within. The stillness on the outside easily helped achieve a stillness within.  As the world slowed down, the mind also slowed down. Activities came down to a bare minimum. Actions were performed only on a need basis. No mindless running around. Within this physical stillness, the mind stopped gathering new impressions. And with no new impressions to distract, the older ones surfaced up with a vengeance. When that happened, there was no choice but to confront them. Look them in the eye and truly SEE them for what they are.   And when that work was done, it was like a huge chunks of slush and dirt that were clogging the spirit were cleared off, allowing for the state of flow to manifest so beautifully. Getting Yoga Ready (10) - Ishwara Pranidana

It has taken me the longest to write about this last Niyama which is also the final and ultimate step of the yama niyama series. For everything else -right from satya to svadyaya, it takes a little bit of will, a little mindfulness, some intellectual discrimination and a lot of persistence. However, for Ishwara Pranidana, all it takes is complete surrender of the self, which means completely letting go of one's ego. Ego: In vedantic terms, ego is the identification of the Self with the body, mind and intellect, whereby we become this small and often petty "individual", whereas our true nature is that of infinite existence conscious bliss.
