Between Books

After starting this project, I am finding myself drawn to writing new posts everyday. And obviously, I just cant write new book reviews everyday right? So thought will share some other reviews also with you here...experiences that I have between books.
 
Restaurants, hotels, new products, stores...these are some of the things that I am planning to record here. Hope you will like it.

Beginning of the March

It really pains to see that I have written only 7 posts in February. And it pains even more when I realize that I have logged in only 5 activities in the runtastic app for the month. But then, considering a very hectic work week, 2 weddings, death of a relative, a sick relative and a terrible eye infection, I should not delve too much on the month that was past. So I wanted to share here what I want to do in March 2015, as a sort of commitment to myself. 1. I am excited that I am going to run 10 kilometers for 10 continuous days starting from March 3rd. This 10X10 is something that I have been wanting to do for quite sometime. I have a mental block of this 10 K mark and by doing this 10X10, I want to feel as if 10K is the new 5K for me. Whenever I finish 10K, I feel as if I have done something great, and this feeling is so not helping me to start training for my half marathon that I want to run in June. Getting Yoga Ready (3) -Astheya

Astheya means non stealing. And I felt, wow! This is one observance that I have always followed. But, as always, there is more than what meets the eye. Of course, the most obvious meaning is not actually stealing things, money etc from others. Most of us don't do it, simply because it is not in our upbringing. It is beyond our capacities to even entertain thoughts of stealing. The masters say that even bringing stationary and other items from office for personal use is stealing. When I feel that someone is having something that I desire -be it money, jewelry, things, fame, power -and I don't have the capacity to fulfil this desire, I try to obtain the same by using shortcuts -the easiest one is to steal it from someone who already has it or who has it in excess, so that he won't notice that some of it is missing. Yoga Shows The Way!

Ever since I finished my yoga teacher training program at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre , Madurai in December 2016, I have been wanting to write a bit about yoga in general and my experiences with yoga in particular. But the more I practice, the more overwhelmed I become with the sheer beauty and power of this practice. As I lie down on my mat, before the beginning of practice, I feel an immense sense of gratitude to the Masters and to my teacher for giving me this wonderful gift. The feeling of gratitude, love and peace lingers in my heart all through the day, long after I have finished my practice. It may seem a little weird that I am waxing eloquent about yoga, of all things. For starters, if anyone even uttered the word yoga to me a year back, I would have disappeared from that vicinity. Manah Sodhanam -Verse 4

Before we start on the verse, let us take a moment to pay respect to all the diet plans and food promises that we have buried alive with all those yummy food that we have tucked in shamelessly. What?? Don't tell me that you have never felt, especially after a guilty junk food binge, that it is about time you should start eating healthy. Even though I run and keep myself active, I have a weakness for salt. I just love to munch on savories. And you know what is even worse? I tend to keep eating something if I feel bored. I definitely need something in my mouth when I am engrossed in a book. And I get very tempted to eat when I see food. I can't stop myself from grabbing that handful of chips if I see the packet lying on the table, even if it is just 2 minutes after finishing my dinner. While I know that eating junk is bad, I sometimes just can't control myself. Even if I have enjoyed the benefits of healthy eating, it is so easy to stray off the path and indulge myself....

Musings on the Mind

A quiet mind is a happy mind. But the fleeting happiness that I experience every now and then does not mean that my mind is quiet. It just means that I am experiencing a fleeting glimpse of bliss, that will soon be replaced by the hum drum of everyday existence. However, a mind that is truly quiet, is a source of infinite and abiding bliss. It is truly fascinating to observe this mind. And the biggest paradox is, when I start observing the mind, like a shy child, it slinks away and curls up into a quiet corner. And when that happens, the bliss becomes infinite. Just think, wave after wave of ceaseless thoughts is what constitutes the mind. And all these thoughts are purely based on experiences of my past or the expectations of the future. To rephrase, the mind always moves in the space that I create for it, ie -it roams about in the realms of past or in the unexplored kingdoms of the future. My minds chews on a family outing that happened when I was 12, or it invokes...
