Between Books

After starting this project, I am finding myself drawn to writing new posts everyday. And obviously, I just cant write new book reviews everyday right? So thought will share some other reviews also with you here...experiences that I have between books.
 
Restaurants, hotels, new products, stores...these are some of the things that I am planning to record here. Hope you will like it.

Pausing in the wholeness

It has been quite a while since I had the luxury to sit in front of my laptop, opening the blogger page and tapping the keys to see my thoughts unfold into words. And it is such a gratifying feeling to be able to do this - without any agenda, without any expectations of what will flow out or whether it will be interesting or boring or relevant or irrelevant. Just the simple act of being able to articulating the thoughts is a reward unto itself. The recent events in my life has made me understand the magic that each moment holds. One Size DOESNOT Fit All

It has been exactly a year since I quit my corporate job. And first things first -that does not make me a quitter. All through my 28 years of life, I have been made to believe that life follows a single course and as if to reinforce this, everyone around me was taking the same course. School, under graduation, then a post graduation or a job, buy a house / car, get married, have kids, work, work, work, then go on vacations now and then, grow old and then die. The life in between is peppered with all sorts of emotions and dramas and love and hate and gossip and expectations and gratifications and disappointments and whatnots.  Finally, after 3 years of marriage, my family and I travelled to Trichy and Madurai to offer our prayers to Gods and Goddesses.   Madurai Meenakshi holds a very special place in my heart. Even after visiting numerous temples all over south India, I feel that no temple is as beautiful and no deity is as captivating as Meenakshi. My father's family is native to Madurai and before my wedding, we would definitely visit Meenakshi temple at least once in two years.   Meenakshi temple is a treasure trove of stories -historical and mythological. The story that captivated my interest this time was that of Malik Kafur and the stone elephants. My father told us how the invading Muslim army of Allauddin Khilji were on a temple destrying spree. Manah Sodhanam -Verse 15

Past two days have been hectic. 14 hour work day left me with no time for anything else but to come home, eat, sleep, get up and go to work. In fact, I didn't expect to come home any sooner than 9 pm today also. So am doubly happy to sit and write this post today. Verse 15 little intense for me. It talks about perceptions and realities and truth. SATYABUDDHIRYADA  DRSYE  SVATMANO  BHINNATA  TATHA SUKHABUDDHISTADA  TASMIN  DUKHABUDDHIRHI VAA BHAVET When there exists a notion that the perceived world is different from me, then there alone arises the notion that the world gives me joy or sorrow. Getting Yoga Ready (8) - Tapasya

For the longest time, I was under the impression that "Tapas" means standing on a single leg in the tree pose in front of a roaring pyre, repeating a mantra for years together so that the presiding deity of the mantra appears in front of you and grants you all the boons that you want. Blame it all on the Ramayana and Mahabarata serial played out in the television. I even figured out what boon to ask -I will ask for a boon where everything that I wish for happens. And I even had an inbuilt safety mechanism to that boon -lest I think of something unintentionally and that comes true, causing chaos and sorrow. So, I thought that I will ask God to give me a boon where if I say a particular mantra and whish for something three times, only that should come true. Well, to be honest, this fantasy has played out in my mind even as recently as just a few years back. Words and Wild Horses

I have forgotten the joy of writing for writing's sake. To just let the words stream out onto the screen. To capture a fraction of the myriad of feelings that fleet within me. So ephemeral that the words are but a weak and choiceless placeholders to what goes within. If it weren't for words, with what else could I capture it? Writing gives me so much joy. Just to write, without an agenda, without bothering about whether anyone will ever read these words, without caring if anyone will even resonate, leave alone like what I write. To write because I can is the sweetest thing that I can do for my soul.  For a long time now, the workings within were too complex, fearsome and downright incomprehensible at times, for me to write. Art, especially colours came to my rescue as the expression was more abstract and unstructured, vis-à-vis writing.  But today, after a very long long time, I am feeling the familiar tug of the words.
