PK - Movie Review

Director: Rajkumar Hirani
Cast: Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Saurab Shukla, Sanjay Dutt,

What it is like to observe these religions of ours as an outsider? Is God capable of really answering our prayers? But then, is it really fair to seek God just to solve our problems? So, where is God? What does he do? If we are all his children, then does he want us to torture ourselves physically and mentally by fasting, doing anga pradhakshina etc, just to answer our prayers? PK makes you question all these things.

Aamir is an alien astronaut who lands in earth. As soon as he lands, a man steals his transmitter through which he can summon his spaceship. The film starts here and follows Aamir's quest to his transmitter. When he seeks help, people tell him to ask "Bhagwan". He takes this quite literally and pleads with the Gods -the Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jain, Sikh way. along comes Anushka, a TV reporter who helps PK in his quest. The only one to whom PK confesses that he is an alien.

To say that Aamir is brilliant is an understatement. I literally had tears in my eyes when he begs to Gods to help him. " I just want to go home." he cries, and at that moment, you so associate with so many times when you have begged God for something and he remained mum. Having said that, the film is not all too serious. You have comedies that makes you laugh out loud. Anushka is a delight to watch. I couldn't help noticing all the pretty earrings that she wears in the movie. Performance wise, you just love to watch Jaggu -aka Jagat Janani on screen. A modern, strong woman who stills longs for her father's approval, a woman world wise and intelligent, and also, refreshingly, a woman who is portrayed drinking on her terrace in a matter of fact manner. You cant help but rooting for her. And, it is not the leads who rock the film with their performance. All the supporting characters stay with you even after you exit the theatre.

The film is very gripping. Not a moment of slack, the screenplay is tight. The songs also mesh seamlessly in the narrative and are a delight to watch. All in all, PK is definitely one of the must watch movies of the year. And Oh, Aamir's nude scene is very relevant and very definitely a treat to the eye :)
