The Chore Trap

Image
A house is a beast by itself. It enslaves and ties one up with an innumerable and inexhaustible array of chores. I rrespective of whether one has a help to assist with domestic work or one does it all by oneself, there is never a dearth of these chores to complete.  And the trap here is, being caught up in a constant whirl of chores lulls you with a false sense of productivity and achievement. The chores may vary slightly from house to house, depending upon what chore falls on your head to what gets done by the help, but the essence is this -KEEP CLEANING TILL YOU DIE. Don't you agree?  The chores come in varying degrees... everyday chores that includes  Cooking -the one major activity that involves a hoard of sub activities around it -starting from grocery shopping, shopping for veggies, breaking your head as to what to cook today / tomorrow/ this whole week-morning & evening, chopping the veggies, cleaning the kitchen after the cook & ...

Ever since I finished my yoga teacher training program at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre , Madurai in December 2016, I have been wanting to write a bit about yoga in general and my experiences with yoga in particular. But the more I practice, the more overwhelmed I become with the sheer beauty and power of this practice. As I lie down on my mat, before the beginning of practice, I feel an immense sense of gratitude to the Masters and to my teacher for giving me this wonderful gift. I started reading tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha by the time I was in UKG. Slowly I graduated to Champak and Gokulam. Later came the usual suspects of Famous Five, Secret Seven, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. In my 8th standard annual holidays, I received my sex education through Sidney Sheldon (Morning, Noon and Night was the first Sidney Sheldon book that I read) Slowly I graduated to Irwing Wallace, Aurthur Hailey and by the time I was in 10th standard, I had finished the entire Sidney Sheldon collection and was stumbling my way through "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Of course, I couldn't appreciate the book for what it was at that age and re read it during my 12th standard board exams (Yes, I read novels even during my exam time. I am always reading some book or the other. I would soon reach a poin...
